Rooster OD Replacement Sail for the Laser® Standard. The sail cloth (3.8oz with a heavy yarn tempering which makes it perform extremely well against the official sail). This is a quality product and will be ideal for those who are looking for the perfect training sail. Our sail has a little more gust response than the official - making it ideal for sailing on inland waters.
The radial cut standard sail does not use the same set up as the original cross cut sail. It is actually similar to the radial (5.7 - the radial), in that it requires lots more vang/kicker tension to bring the fullness back away from the luff. I have heard that lighter sailors have got away with a very flat sail on flat water using their outhaul. This sail is also quite powerful. The leach stands for longer than the original cross cut, which would work well on inland waters. Those who have been the happiest when changing to the new official radial cut sail have been in the heavier weight range.
Please note that this sail is provided folded and includes a folded sail bag and battens. Sail numbers and Long sail bags (available to order separately below)
It does not come supplied with the Laser® class insignia.
Please note : If you require the Sail Numbers in your order to be applied by Rooster, this can be done as an extra service and is a chargeable item. (Any sail and any configuration).
Please click here for the sail number service webpage.
Sailing Solutions replacement parts are high quality replacements that perform the same function as the original part. They should not be confused with official parts bearing the Laser® registered trademark. They cannot be used if you are sailing at an Association event. However, they are perfect for social sailing, sailing schools, club sailing or training. Generally, there is a significant cost saving when purchasing Sailing Solutions parts.
Note: The official Laser Standard Mark II sail (bi-radial construction) is manufactured from 4.5oz Dacron cloth

It's a laser sail without the laser branding or price. It's the first time I've bought a new sail and was astonished with the difference it has made to the performance of my laser, I've gone from the back end of the fleet to the front of the fleet, wish I'd bought a new sail years ago and on a regular basis.
I also had the numbers and telltales added by them and can't fault the service. I ordered on Saturday and the sail arrived Tuesday with numbers and telltales added.

As a spare sail for club racing is fine. found it needed a lot of kicker to get any shape. and only needed downhall as wind came in. also found that it needed a bit off slack in outhaul to get drive.
Has got a nasty crease in window as it was folded across this in packing.

Rooster's replacement / training / practice mainsail is of excellent quality and a good value.
Was pleasantly surprised to discover that the sail arrived with lightly penciled lines indicating where the sail numbers are to be placed (both starboard and port sides); same for the country codes (both as per ILCA rules).
Another pleasant surprise was the 8 black telltales with stick-on pads.
And their shipping was fast.
The white fiberglass battens provided are a bit heavy and stiff; I recommend replacing them with the black Rooster battens, which are lighter and more flexible (and reasonably priced).
As another reviewer mentioned, the folding of the sail done for shipping puts a crease on the window, but it comes out with time and proper care. There are also some loose threads fraying from the sailcloth where it is cut for the window; this is easily handled with a little trimming now and then. For the price and overall quality and shape of the sail, these things do not detract from the excellent value of the sail.
- TSTom S.Verified BuyerI recommend this productRated 3 out of 5 stars2 years agoEasy transaction with item as expected but less than perfect finish.
The sail had a number of threads left untidy. It would have been better finished if these threads had been cut off. The way the sail was folded and parcelled for delivery has left a crease across the sail window that will take quite some time to stretch out. Again this could have been improved with a better way of parcelling.RUROOSTER UK2 years ago
Sorry to hear about your sail, we have noted your comments and will make the necessary changes to the thread ends, and the packing/folding process, so it does not crease the window.
