Summer of ‘22 - Supporting our Community

By Florence Hales 7th October 2022

Unless you’re chasing the season and heading to warmer climes this winter, for the many of us who have been lapping up every second of this summer, it’s sadly all come to an end far too soon.

For Rooster, it’s been another 100 mph whirlwind summer filled with a global reach of events. We’ve supported a multitude of Nationals, Europeans, Worlds, Games, Series, Women’s events, Individuals and week long regatta’s from far and wide.

We began early on in the year with our second time round supporting the Formula Kite Spain Series throughout the summer. Hundred's of pro kiters hopped around Spanish coastlines cutting up the waves in style.

The start of the season took us through a range of class Nationals including RS Tera’s, Solo’s and WASZP's, and the RS Aero World’s across the pond. Followed by Keel Week in Plymouth and the WASZP Games made for a fantastic event in beautiful Lake Garda.

Mid-season crept up and the Topper World qualifiers were also treated to the Lake Garda scenes with a great turn out of Global Topper sailors.

The Topper Nationals followed up in Weymouth, and later in the season, we headed to the RS400’s Nationals in Scotland, Parkstone Youth Week and the RS 200 Nationals at HISC followed. We saw an end to the summer with Poole Week and the Women’s USA RS Aero Nationals finalised our whirlwind summer of 2022…and this is only to name a few!

Highlights

A special mention of course must go to the RS Games, which was an epic event with an alternation of the classes set in Weymouth across 2 and a half weeks. Each RS Class took to the Olympic Sailing Centre waters turn by turn. Rooster prizes were up for grabs and a full Rooster shop set up with RS Games merch available to print on demand.

During the RS Games we also handed our very first Sportsmanship of the Year Award to Sasha Tydeman of the RS Aero Class, for all her selfless efforts and unmissable smiley ray of sunshine attitude. Sasha is now part of Team Rooster!

We also joined the SailGP Inspire programme for its third series. Rooster continues to kit out all SGP Inspire participants in high quality performance gear in every pit stop around the world. We are proud to be supporting such an impactful and enjoyable experience for young people from different ages, genders and races with a range of backgrounds and sailing ability.

We were also excited to announce our new clothing partnership with the International WASZP Class and supported the Nationals and Games and we continue to work together to support WASZP sailors globally in the future.

This year we continue to support the RS Feva Grand Prix series during its national tour, with awesome prizes and merchandise for all levels of participation. We look forward to the upcoming winter GP’s to tie up our 2022 events!

Ambassador Shout Outs

It would be rude not to include our ambassadors who have been going above and beyond to share with others the Rooster brand ethos and give advice and support wherever they go, both in the boat park and online. So many achieved amazing results this season, including our Swiss Nacra 15 team ‘FG Sailing Team’ who were crowned Youth World Champions in The Hague and followed up in the Open World’s with a great result, awesome work!

Rory Ferrier had a ball in Greece at the EURILCA 6 Youth Euro Championships and Millie Irish smashed a 4th at the 420 Worlds in Hungary.

Lotte Meynen experienced her first ever Opti Worlds and represented Rooster head to toe as always, the first of many Worlds to come for Lotte! Team Black Star became GC32 World Champions in Portugal and Tadeo Furness worked up a 1st place at the South American 49er Champions with his crew!

Team Rooster from Holland, Thomas Reyners and Lars van den Berg accomplished a 4th in the United4 Workum and participated in the 29er Europeans, Denmark.

A special shout out to our ambassadors that continuously do their bit to represent, tag, write blogs, leave reviews and tell us their stories. We are very excited to be working with such an amazing group of people.

That is a wrap up of our 2022 season, we already have some very exciting upcoming events in the calendar for 2023. Don’t forget to get your requests in early to avoid disappointment. Have a fantastic winter season, until next time!
