Our Classic Hike Shorts have set the standard for hikers in the sailing industry for many years and will continue to be as popular as ever. However as no two sailors are the same shape or size, we wanted to give you more choice. The Rooster Pro Hike Shorts utilise removable pads so that you can decide where you would like the support.

Rooster Pro Hike Pads are uniquely stiff and pre-shaped to enable you to hike longer and harder. The pads attach with Velcro to the inner lining of the hikers which enables them to be placed firmly where you need the support, without the complication of unnecessary pad pockets or straps.

What are Hiking Shorts?

Hiking shorts contain strong battens that allow the sailor to experience pain free hiking with reduced fatigue, but more importantly these design features enable you to experience reduced fatigue with added lift, so you can sail the boat faster and flatter!

The Pro Hike Shorts really are the ultimate in hiking comfort and support but if you prefer a more traditional approach, why not take a look at our Classic Hike Shorts.

Please note that you need Hike Pads to use these Hikers which are supplied as an option extra.

Use Wear Protection shorts to give you the right amount of grip and slip and prevent wear of the batten pockets from an abrasive deck - see related items tab for product details and size chart.

Tried several hikers over the years and this has to be the best I've come across. Fit is excellent, went for one size below as advised to achieve tight fit and allow the hikers to mould to my shape giving me a second skin fit with no restriction in movement.

These hikers are great. The pads are really comfortable for hiking and fit really well in the hikers. The knee pads are made of a very durable rubber material so they won't wear out for a very long timer and the whole garment fits really nicely even if you're wearing lots of clothes i.e. race skin etc. The best thing about these hikers is that they can be worn in so many different types of weather. On their own with just a rash vest, I wore them in Italy in 30 degrees but at the end of seasons in November, I was still warm albeit with some more layers underneath!

Brilliant piece of kit; had mine for ...... errr, can't remember, but must be at least 4-years, so now getting a bit worn out; what'll I get to replace? Some more of the same, of course ! Used WITH pads when its windy, and used WITHOUT when its lighter, or I really want the extra flexibility for a bit of inland-pond wiggle. Offshore 'railing' (with pads set 'high'), or Flying-15, or Laser, or Phantom, then again as trapeze-gear (without the pads of course). I do need, not just to X-over the braces across the front, but also tape-together the braces as high as possible above the chest (almost base-of-neck height).

Have now had mine for two years and can truely say that they are the best bit of sailing kit I have ever owned. As previous reviewers have said they make Laser hiking almost painless by the flexibility of the movable pads. I do remove the pads on a light day to make movement a bit easier and also to wear when crewing a traditional hiking out dinghy. I wear the polypro trousers underneath to stop the pads rubbing on bare skin and a pair of lycra shorts over to prevent holes in the rear! My wetsuit/steamer is now redundant. Wear with the raceskin for ultimate comfort.

I have used these hikers for over a year and there is not one thing i would change. To me time on the water is critical therefore having uncomfortable kit just wont do; the kit has got to last some tough use, and enable maximum movement ... these hikers do just that whilst helping me hike for longer. Another added bonus.... I remove the pads and use them in my rooster neoprene shorts for those light wind hot days, two products in one to save on cash. Ideal!

these things are fantastic!!! the pads are nice and thick (like me!) and for a while they felt odd because i thought i had lost contact with the boat!!! they really do make hiking as comfortable as possible and they really do let you hike that little bit longer than someone without them but thats all you need to pull out ahead of them. the pads also help insulate, they are so thick it like having a heater under your legs so sometimes its nice to go swimming!!! positioning them is easy. i have mine as low down as possible (i can still bend my knees) trouble with this is the pad can rub on the soft spot of skin in the underside of the knee. so you can either put up with it like me or just wear long trunks or the lycra shorts or something. these are the only shorts i have used and it will remain that way when i either grow out of them or just wrek them from all the use they get!

These hikers are the next step up from the classics. The removable pads are a brilliant idea. The pads can be placed anywhere allowing the hikers to be personalised for the wearer, and by removing them, this makes putting them in the washing machine easier, and doesn't destroy them (nor the washing machine!) It also means that you can use it as an ordinary wetsuit when you want to. I've had mine over 18 months now and they are still going strong, and the pads are still in the same shape they were when i bought them. I never go sailing without my hikers any more! They're simply amazing!

Having never had hikers before I was curious as to the benefits of them and after some intial discomfort resolved by fiddling (helps if you know where your leg bends!) I went out on the water in them - how much easier is hiking? Ok, no one has invented something that stops your stomach huring but these hikers certainly make the backs of the legs part much much more pleasant! A product out of the top drawer and I'll certainly we wearing them all summer.

I purchased these Hikers a couple of weeks ago, and have used them a couple of times now. I have got back into sailing this year after 20 years away, and these Hikers have really given me the confidence to really hike out over the side of my Laser in strong winds. I'm a tall guy (6 foot 2) and tried on other hikers and found the pads either too small or in the wrong place for me, but with the large sized leg shaped pads and the easy to use (and reposition) velcro placement they fit and support excellently..Fantastic product, great idea!
