The ultimate multi-sport base layer!

About Polypro

Rooster Polypro is constructed from a combination of Polypropylene (94%) and Elastane (6%). We've brushed the inner fabric surface to give it a thick, fleece-like, high quality texture which feels incredibly warm and soft next to your skin. The resulting garments provides excellent thermal qualities making it the perfect base layer. Polypropylene is naturally hydrophobic, which means the fabric feels remarkably dry, even when wet. Wear it next to your skin underneath our neoprene Longjohns and Tops - in fact the possibilities are endless - our Polypro base layers would be great under your ski suit, drysuit, winter cycling, kayaking, walking and anytime you need a thermal base layer.

Also available as a top, socks, gloves and headwear - see related items.

Laundry instructions

We recommend hand washing in warm water.

Features
  •     Breathable polypropylene material wicks moisture away from the body
  •     Brushed ´fleece´ inner providing excellent thermal qualities
  •     Dries very quickly after use and washing due to the hydrophobic (water repellent) nature of polypropylene
  •     Wear beneath Hot Legs as an insulating layer during winter for incredible warmth
  •     Ideal for a range of outdoor activities in the colder months including road cycling, mountain biking, kayaking and skiing

Great for putting under hikers, nice and warm and comfy
  • Ellie Aikman, Milton Keynes, 17 February 2017
Great extra layer! Pair it with the matching supertherm top for extra warmth. Since I got these I've never left them at home!
  • Katie, Glasgow, 23 January 2017
Slightly disappointed, the material is a lot thinner than it used to be. My last pair were great, 5 star. After 6 years of use sailing and cycling in all weathers I decided to get some new ones. The new ones are a lot thinner. Hopefully they will be just as warm and long lasting though...?
Rooster Reply:Hi Katie, thanks for your feedback. We are continually trying to improve our products and the fabric we use. We believe our latest generation Polypro™ leggings are the warmest and most durable yet! Please do get in touch and let us know how you get on, we really value our customers input. Happy sailing & cycling!

As already said, warm, dry and light and an excellent base layer. I love wearing them for rowing in the winter too as my legs don't wet and cold if it's raining. Lots of Rooster stuff is great for rowing as well as dinghy sailing.

Very good product overall, warm, and really comfy!
  • Ellie Clark, York, 26 October 2016
Love these for sailing in, but have now found another use for them! It was pretty cold yesterday and I knew I was going to be out riding for most of the day. Put them under my jodhpurs and was toasty warm all day long. Result!
  • James Dowrick, Cornwall, 24 October 2016
A great pair of leggings for the real depths of winter. They make launching & recovering your boat a lot warmer. Also great under coastal kit for cold days on the yacht.
  • Jonathan Andrews, Darley, 14 October 2016
Have to say that I find these excellent. I use them under a dry suit (along with the matching top) rather than the liner and find them much more comfortable and practical. I also use them under my fly fishing waders and they work a treat for that too!
  • Florence McAllester, Dundee, 14 October 2016
Very warm and high quality, great for under a drysuit or salopettes too. Dry slowly but very comfortable
  • Anthony Scott, Bradenton, 10 November 2014
If you're built tall and lean, definitely consider getting a size up from what you think you should get. With the heel straps, if you get it too small, you're going to have them pulled down whilst sailing, running, biking, or whatever activity you use them for. A great product though that won't hurt your wallet.

As a new member of Team Rooster (check out our blog, George and Sophie, RS200 and Firefly Team Racing) I have been fortunate enough to try out a wide range of the amazing Rooster kit. I already had a PolyPro top which I love, so decided to try some leggings. Suffering from the cold, these are very warm and useful to wear when we are Team Racing. I am looking forward to trying them under hi-fits as the weather warms up and Spring finally arrives. I would definitely recommend to anyone like me who feels the cold but needs a layer as a base in the winter or a single layer in the warmer months.
  • Greg Brougham, Putney, 13 November 2011
I think these are great apart from two points - be careful not to put direct pressure on the seams as they split. Also the waist is quite low cut and my preference would be for them to be a bit higher.
  • Graeme Oliver, St Marys Island, 02 March 2011
Have used these for keelboats, under drysuit on skiffs and for mountainbiking in -8 and snow! Absolutely awesome, great warmth and wind resistance and a fantastic price!

I have tried so many different thermals from many of the top brand names, some of which were considerably more expensive than the roosters. None of them match up for warmth and versatility. Biking, Canoeing Windsurfing and cold terrain walking. Poly Pro's are A1 in my book. I will now match these with the poly pro top which im sure will give me the same on the top half. Well worth the money!!!

Just completed the coast to coast off road challenge on my mountain bike. Starts in the lake district so when it rains - it rains! All my friends were in very expensive cycle stuff which got heavy and wet. The poly pro's kept me warm and dry the entire week:-) Highly recommended! Also excellent to use snowboarding - January chair lifts can get rather chilly without them. Offshore racing - beats other thermal base layers hands down. Very rare to find such a multitasking piece of kit. Thank you!

I've sailed all winter on the north sea using my polypros as the base layer. They were simply brilliant. I was never cold because of the thin fleecy lining, and the shiny lycra outer repels a lot of the water. They also make getting my hikers on much, much easier as they just slide straight on. Another great product from rooster!
  • Janis Lacis, London, 14 November 2007
I bought it to be worn under my wet-suit as it makes it, much warmer. Very importantly (because of slippery lycra-like outside) it is very easy to put on and take off your wet-suite. It used to be quite a struggle. It has excellent breathability, it does not soak up moisture and is the best choice for dry-suit. I learned to love it so much that I use it for skiing and cycling. Highly recommended. P.S. To be used with Rooster Poly Pro Top.
