Youth Racing, Warsash Optimist Open!!!

By Jenna Snedker 2nd October 2020

It has been by far my busiest sailing year with Youth Racing at HISC, to the Warsash Optimist Open Meeting.

Youth Racing I love doing Youth Racing at HISC on Sundays because it is so much fun and great practice just before an event. There is a series of racing which is over three or four weekends. On Sunday 26th June I came 2nd out of 30 Optimists :-)

Warsash Optimist Open 2-3rd July took place near the Solent! On Saturday I sailed out two miles to the course. It was a Force 5 to 6 and gusting 30 knots at times, plus there was a hail storm. I had one tough race battling against the strong winds but I was determined to finish, despite the fact that I was struggling to go upwind. Once I had finished the race the postponement flag was flying. I waited for a long time until the abandonment flag was flying and everyone cheered. I managed to finish 20th that day.

Warsash open Sunday brought my less favourite winds, with a Force 1 to 2. I had an okay day. Results were 32nd (which was my discard), 28th and 21st which was by far my best result of the day and finally another 32nd. I finished 29th out of 40 boats. I also would like to thank Rooster for my All Purpose Boots. I would recommend them and they were really comfortable. I also found the bag that came with them very useful. Still very busy. Here are my next events which I am very excited about!
  • Emsworth Optimist Open 24th July
  • HISC Youth Race Week 25th - 29th July
  • Chichester Optimist Open 21st August
And finally, on 1st, 2nd and 3rd August I am having some coaching sessions at HISC with two others friends of mine who are Optimist sailors and of course a very good coach. Goodbye until next time... Jenna Snedker GBR 6164
