Update Krystal Weir European Trip One

By Steve Cockerill 30th September 2020
Hi All, I am back in Melbourne training out of Sandringham for the next Olympic Trial in Weymouth UK. I have just returned from a whirlwind trip that included Spain, Greece and France. My first event was in Palma Mallorca in April, after some exciting logistics I was ready to race. I had a very up and down event in Palma with some great results, my final day of racing didn’t go to plan which took me down the score card from 9th to 22nd overall. I then travelled down to Hyeres for some training with young Sam Meech of New Zealand. We had an intense week of training mainly working on my downwind speed. By the end of the week my confidence was back and I was ready to race. To help break up the trip I decided to fly across to Greece for a Formula windsurfing event and to enjoy some well earned time out from the Laser. It was amazing to see the Acropolis and to enjoy the Greek lifestyle. Before I knew it I was back on a plane to Hyeres for the ISAF Grade One. When I arrived it was blowing 20knots so I decided it was a good boat work day, the next day I woke up to find 20-25knots so thought I would hit the gym, then finally a day before racing I woke up to find 30knots and 2m high waves. I decided to grab the bull by the horns and get out on the water. It was an amazing day! The waves were phenomenal, reminded me of a big, big day out of Sandy ;) The event was big with a huge turn out of competitors. I was on fire, I spent the first three quarters of the event in 4th place overall. During the middle of the regatta I was in a protest which didn’t go my way and then on the last day I had my second yellow flag. With the addition of letters into my score card I had to carry an extra 50points, this took me down the score card to 19th overall, which I have to say was a pretty disappointing end to a good regatta. I am now in preparation for trip two to Weymonth, Kiel and Finland. With the addition of a new coach in my program, it is going to be a very exciting couple of months. Thank you all for your support for Gold 2012. It’s time to bring back the merchandise! Go Hard, No Limits!
