Summer sailing events......

By Rooster Sailing 30th September 2020
Summer sailing 2012....... After returning home from another great summer of sailing I thought I would share some of the great events we have attended. Firstly was the 50th Lord Birkett memorial trophy on the 7th/8th July at Ullswater YC. The annual Lord Birkett event consists of two races (1 each day) the full length of Ullswater - wind permitting. This year was another great entry with over 200 boats taking part in one mass start. Also a first for this year was the spectator steamer in which family & friends could enjoy watching the racing whilst drinking Pimms and eating strawberries. The bands & social were as epic as ever, as was the mud!. The sailing was very light winds but full race distance was sailed on Saturday & approx 1/2 distance on Sunday. Full report: http://www.ullswateryachtclub.org/Home/tabid/188/mid/527/newsid527/233/Birkett-2012-Racing-Report/Default.aspx Results: http://www.ullswateryachtclub.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=vD8XCSSkduM%3d&tabid=163&mid=615 Filey regatta was next on our calendar on 14th / 15th July, there were 60 handicap boats & 14 RS200's travelled to compete in the RS200 Northern Tour event. Sailing conditions were mixed over the weekend, the wind strength was up and down as was the sea state (with some competitors suffering more than others with this!). The race officer did a great job despite some very tricky wind shifts and still managed to catch a few mackerel. Filey once again proved itself to be a great sea sailing venue and a very friendly sailing club. This has been an event that we have done year on year because it's a great sailors holiday. It generally consists of a morning sunbathing on the beach (yes really in Wales) with discussion around the huge size of the course set, 1 race in the afternoon, followed by a few beers and then a few more beers, and then a little later a bit of dancing (Go 'Team Brightside'). Sailing in the RS200 fleet was as competitive as in previous years with it all coming down to the final days results. It was a great opportunity to see people we don't see often enough, have a good catch up and did I mention enjoy a few beers with them... Laura purchased a Rooster Shin Tech Long John Wetsuit before this event having heard good things about it from 'drysuit converts', it is the most comfortable wetsuit she has owned. Big thanks to Rooster for another great piece of warm sailing kit. Results: http://www.scyc.co.uk/Racing-Results/National-Open-Events/Abersoch-Dinghy-Week/2012/index.php
