RS400 Sprints at Rutland
Last weekend we headed to an RS400 Sprints event at Rutland Sailing Club, which was attended by 24 very good RS400 teams. Temperatures were low, but the wind forecast was perfect, with a northerly force 4-5 breeze forecasted for both days. The format for this Sprint event was slightly different to what I'm used to. After 6 races on the first day in a 'Round Robbin' format, our group of six raced each of the other groups over 6 races. The fleet was split into gold and silver based on the results up to then. We managed to qualify for the gold fleet which we were quite pleased about.
On the second day, there were 6 races for both the gold and silver fleet on an "M" shaped course. The wind was blowing at around 15 knots (plus or minus 10!) and shifting around quite a bit as it blew over the reservoir. This led to very close racing in the gold fleet. We sailed quite hard and we enjoyed the challenging conditions! We were very happy to finish the event in 2nd place amongst a very high standard fleet and with the regatta win in touching distance!
Next up is the RS400 Bartley Open on May 15th!
