RS400 Inlands at QMSC
Apologies for the lack of posting recently! I have been in the process of moving to the UK from Ireland. One of my first jobs was to join Oxford SC and join the RS400 circuit here! I've recruited a new crew Emily. She is new to sailing but has been learning fast.
We attempted an RS400 event in mid-October at Grafam SC but no wind arrived at all over the weekend and the event was canned. Last weekend, the RS400 "Last Shout" regatta was on at Queen Mary SC. Unfortunately, the first day was far too windy and sailing was abandoned for the day. On Sunday however, we awoke to a nice F4-7 breeze on the reservoir. After launching 42 RS400's and a host of Laser 2000 and 4000's off the tricky slipway, racing quickly got underway.
Over the course of the day there were 4 races. We fought as hard as we could and were chuffed to walk away with a 10th out of 42. We were particularly proud of this result as it was Emily's 9th time in a sailing boat of any description. Over the winter we plan to keep sailing regularly to build on this result and to teach Emily some common sailing knowledge so we can avoid situations like when she asked 'whats a painter?' whilst launching!
Alex Irwin from sportography.tv took some cracking pictures of the event - check out the Gallery here.
