RS300 Scottish Events 2012
By Ian Baillie
Happy New Year to everyone. We had a very windy few days here with winds in Edinburgh over 100mph and the wind indicator on the Forth Bridge going off the scale. My boat is still at the sailing club at Dalgety (the garage is too full of other toys at the moment) and although it got blown over it's fine. Unlike our house roof and car, which collected the roof on it's bonnet. Glad it wasn't my boat, or me in the drive at the time.
We are planning our Scottish events for this year, which will include a UK circuit event at Prestwick in August.
So we will be starting with a training day followed by a race day at Loch Tay on April 28/29th. We haven't decided who will coach but it may well be me. Then in May we go to Dalgety, the date is still to be confirmed but will be one the last 2 weekends. In June 23/24th we visit Largo Bay for our Scottish Championships, where Neil Beveridge will be defending his title. Largo is a fantastic place to sail and within easy reach of Edinburgh. We will hope to attract some of the North of England guys up for that one. Then in August we have the UK circuit event at Prestwick on the 18/19th. This is sure to be popular as Prestwick was one of the very best Nationals we have ever had, onshore and on the water.
And after the success of our end of year regatta with the 2s and 4s we will be very keen to repeat that event to finish off the season.
The UK Nationals are at Pwlheli from September 8th to 11th. I'll be back at school by then so I can't go, but its a great place to sail. I do hope to get to the Inlands at Leigh and Lowton on the 20/21st October though.
My hibernation will probably go on until the beginning of March, I don't know how I managed to sail through the winter when I was younger and the clothing wasn't half as good, but if you are sailing, then have fun.
