RS200 Chris Pickles - 1st Blog....

By Rooster Sailing 30th September 2020
Hi all, I'm Chris Pickles, aka Pix, this is my first post on the Rooster Blog. I am currently a member of Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club after being a member of Delph SC for several years. I have sailed since the age of 8 (currently 30 something) in a variety of classes including Mirrors, Toppers, Lasers, Laser 2, RS200, RS500 & 49er. The past 7/8 years I have mainly competed with my partner Laura on the RS200 circuit as well as sailing a 49er with my mate Matt at selected events. Laura & I bought our first RS200 in approx 2003 with the aim of getting Laura on the water as she never sailed before. Through blisters, sweat, tears and lots of practice we have had some success, we've won numerous opens on the RS200 northern tour and became the RS200 inland champions in 2007. Throughout we have enjoyed some fantastic weekends & holidays, meeting new friends at venues like Abersoch, Ullswater, Bassenthwaite just to mention a few. On to 2012 sailing so far....... With a mild Xmas / New Year we attended the YDSC brass monkey (along with the other 100 or so boats). We also sailed at LLSC in the New Year's day pursuit race. At both events we sailed in the RS200 and had some really close racing finishing 4th at each. Since then we have been club racing at YDSC, it's very competitive handicap racing with a number of previous national champions sailing. The bacon butties, hot meals between races, and under floor heating are usually very much appreciated making it the perfect winter venue! Early February we attended the Tiger at Rutland which can only be described as mega cold, we had a great time catching up with friends, staying in 5* accommodation (thanks Michael and Carole). It was also great to see the Tewksbury guys (go team spongebob!). We found it very difficult sailing the trapezoid course on the Saturday but had a much better race on the snowy Sunday pursuit pushing us up to 12th overall. I am pleased to be part of Team Rooster & i'm already really looking forward to the 2012 season and keeping you lot updated, I may even be able to talk Laura into posting on here........ Hope to see you on the water soon...... Next event is 26th February at Blackpool & Fleetwood - Eskimo Pursuit race sponsored by ROOSTER.
