On the 30th of June Jamie and I turned up for the PA Consulting RS Feva national championships. Day one and two were the qualifying series and on day three we were split into gold and silver fleet.
Day one started windy with a strong westerly that built and built with gusts approaching 3o knots. In the first race we started well and came 13th; our 2nd race did not go too well as we made a mistake, going back to the start as we thought we were over when we were not. In race three we started well, we had a long tiring beat, which challenged everyone. We got our best result, a 5th. Despite the windy, rainy, cold conditions we were both warm in our rooster Supertherms
The second day’s conditions were looking a lot better with a good 10 knots. We had an early start, to get another three races in. Our first race that day went well with a good result of 22nd. Our 2nd race was hard as it was very shifty, we were not doing too well until the end of the race where we played the shifts upwind and worked our way up to 13th. Our 3rd race was better, we started well and played the shifts all the way round the racecourse holding our position in 10th.
Day three was a windy day with lots of rain making it very gusty. We had an average wind of around 22 knots with gusts up to 25. We had an early start as we had to try to fit in 4 races. We were in gold fleet along with 44 other boats. We got some good results consisting of a 23, 21, 43 and a 15th. We ended up finishing 23rd overall.
We enjoyed this event and are hoping to better in future events.
