RS Feva Grand Prix - Hayling Island
On Saturday the 5th of September Jamie and I went to Hayling Island for the Feva 2015 grand prix squad selectors. We were lucky to have our first event of the season at our home club, HISC. On the first day we had a good northerly breeze of around 10 knots. Thankfully I had my Rooster Supertherm, which kept me warm. We started the first race well and went right up the beat, as there was more pressure. We rounded the windward mark in 7th. We decided to bang left down wind because of the tide, this paid off and we ended up finishing the first race in 3rd. We had a good start in the 2nd race and banged right again, we rounded the windward mark in 4th, we took a risk down wind and gybed off and ended up rounding the leeward mark in 1st. We kept up our first position upwind and pulled away from the second boat . We managed to win the second race with a reasonable lead. Race three and four didn’t go as well as the first two, we came back in the third on and finished 5th but in the 4th race we struggled to catch back up and finished 13th Sunday was looking light which led to an hours postponement. We launched in 8 knots. We managed to fit in 2 races. Jamie and I were quite nervous, as we wanted to keep our place in 3rd, which meant we had to get 2 top 10 results. We didn’t do as well as the first day but we managed to get a 7th and an 8th. We finished 3rd overall but it was very close as we came 3rd on countback. We are hoping to win a place into the National Junior Squad which means we need to do well at our next event at Grafham water. Jamie and I have enjoyed this event a great deal and we have gained a lot of confidence from this. Feva 4963 Louis Wright
