RS Easterns Win!

By 30th September 2020
Winter sailing has finally come to a close! While we had a great run at winter sailing in the Dun Laoghaire Frostbites, coming 2nd overall, we’re looking forward to a busy season ahead. The RS calendar, shown below, has more events than ever this year with a nice even spread over the next 6 months. - 12/4/14-13/4/14: RS Easterns at Greystones Sailing Club. - 24/5/14-25/5/14: RS Sprints at Ballyholme Yacht Club. - 21/6/14-22/1/14: RS Northerns at Strangford Yacht Club. - 19/7/12-20/7/14: RS Westerns at Lough Ree Yacht Club. - 8/8/14-10/8/14: Irish RS Nationals at Galway Bay Sailing Club. - 24/8/14-28/8/14: UK RS400 Nationals at Mounts Bay Sailing Club, Cornwall. - 13/9/14-14/9/14: RS Southerns at Kinsale Yacht Club.

The season kicked off with the RS Easterns in our home club in Greystones just last weekend which had 55 boats taking part including 26 boats in RS400 fleet. It was an extremely challenging weekend with a very shifty offshore breeze which seemed to range from force 3 to force 6 on both days and a strong southerly tide to add to the mix.

The competition was the highest it has ever been in the RS400 fleet with a lot of new faces who went straight to the sharp end of the fleet. Despite this, we just managed to win the event despite missing out on a single race win over the event! Our string of consistent seconds and thirds proved to be enough. See the full results here.

We are absolutely delighted to have pulled off this extremely challenging win at our home club and look forward to pushing for some more good results this year! One particular event we are looking forward is the RS nationals at Mounts Bay in the UK in August which will be our first event off Irish waters. We will also be sailing in the club series in Greystones this year hoping to continue from our success during last year’s season. Sean and Tyner
