Rooster Sailing Support the Atlantic Drifters

By 2nd October 2020

Rooster Sailing will be the technical clothing provider to the Atlantic Drifters in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge 2015/16.

The Atlantic Drifters team is made up of Army Air Corps Officers, Major Tom Brunwin and Major Dave Lambert MBE. They have completed multiple operational tours throughout their careers including flying the UK’s Apache helicopter in the most arduous of conditions.

Having spoken about their desire to take part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge over the years, they finally committed to making their dream a reality whilst serving 3000 miles from home in Afghanistan; a useful symmetry given the distance the pair hope to row.

The Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge is the World’s toughest row. More people have been into space and climbed Everest than have rowed the Atlantic. The team will row more than 3000 nautical miles, starting from La Gomera in the Canaries and finishing at English Harbour in Antigua.

Steve Cockerill, Director of Rooster Sailing said, "we are absolutely delighted to be the technical clothing provider for the Atlantic Drifter's row across the Atlantic. I'm really looking forward to following their progress and wish Tom and Dave the best of luck."

The team will be using the race as a platform to raise money for two charities close to their hearts; OAKS and DDMT.

Major Dave Lambert MBE explained the significance of these two charitires, "OAKS is a small charity set up to support the educational needs of the underprivileged children of war-torn Sierra Leone. The LT DOUGIE DALZELL MC MEMORIAL TRUST - DDMT was formed after the tragic death of Lt Dougie Dalzell MC on his 27th birthday in February 2010 in Helmand, Afghanistan. Dougie was killed by an improvised explosive device whilst clearing a road during an operation to build a checkpoint in the local area during Op MOSHTARAK. Dougie had an inherent concern for the welfare of his men which is the founding principle upon which the Trust was built in January 2011 by his family and friends. During our 3000 mile journey we will encounter 40 ft waves and some extreme weather conditions so we are delighted to welcome Rooster as our official technical clothing provider for the expedition."

The Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge will start December 15th 2015 in San Sebastian de La Gomera, Spain. You can follow the team's progress via the race website.
