The Optimist Nationals had a really competitive fleet this year, with lots of sailors staying on in Pwllheli after the Euro’s and a number of Worlds teams using the Nationals as training for Poland. Over the course of the week we completed 13 races, in a mix of conditions including 20 knots and 2 metre waves. Most of the days were Supertherm conditions – so much for the UK summer!
I was really pleased to finish 11th overall in the Senior gold fleet and 2nd GBR sailor – winning the Weston trophy (2nd GBR senior) and St George cup (1st English senior). Also congratulations to Rhys for finishing 1st GBR sailor.
This coming weekend is our final two days of training ahead of the Worlds – team racing training at Lymington with the Euro’s team racing team and on Sunday afternoon we will be loading the boats onto the trailer for the trip to Poland. We're flying out to Poland on Thursday the 20th August.
