Celebrating 15 years of Rooster Aquafleece®
Aquafleece® – keeping you warm for the last 15 years! Our development of the Aquafleece® material revolutionised the standard spray top.It has to be said that the most effective layer in your kit bag for keeping the cold at bay would have to be your 'spray top.' Water takes heat from your body 27 times faster than air, therefore keeping the water away from your skin is the primary line of defence. This layer need not be cumbersome and uncomfortable, which is why Rooster has invested thousands of hours in the development, testing and refinement of our world renowned Aquafleece® range.
What is Aquafleece® ?
The fabric: Waterproof, flexible with unparalleled durability. The garments: Water resistant, comfortable and warm.
A typical 'spray top' will keep off the wind at the expense of comfort and flexibility. Aquafleece® does this in comfort and style with a design that was BORN for dinghy sailing. The fact that there are still original production garments seen on the water today is testament to the quality and durability built into the DNA of every Aquafleece® product that has left our premises since its inception in 2002. Unlike many 'spray tops' on the market, our unique waterproof coating cannot wear off and requires no 're-proofing'.
With an ever growing range of tops and accessories, we have compiled this handy little comparison chart to illustrate the features and benefits for each style in the range:
Which tops is right for me?
Classic Aquafleece® - The fuss-free construction and understated features have stood the test of time and this garment is still the first choice for many sailors. With simple waist and wrist closures, comfy high collar and low bulk appeal, this an ideal garment for all sailors from recreational to seasoned racer. Fit the garment close to minimise flushing and keep it to hand for those days where you need a warm windproof spray top for days on the beach or on the water when the sea breeze fills in.
"I see so many Classic Aquafleece's at the Round the Island Race each year as they are the ideal small windproof to supplement summer coastal sailing gear." Steve Cockerill, MD Rooster Sailing
The Pro Lite Aquafleece® - Offering the security of 'PRO' with the fabric and seam construction of our 'Classic', this is an ideal partner for your spring to autumn kit bag. The clever overlock seams are near watertight in even the heaviest sprayline, working tirelessly as an effective windchill layer, while keeping bulk to a minimum. With the welcome addition of adjustable waist and wrist seals, flushing effect is minimised when you go for a swim and means you can stay drier and warmer for longer. Available in a wide range of colours, this is our most popular garment in the range.
The Pro Aquafleece® - No holds barred, heavyweight Aquafleece®. It's taped seams offer 100% protection from water ingress, but their technical function require additional care when rinsing, drying and storage after use. With care there is no reason that these garments cannot well outlive your expectations of a protective layering garment.
"From personal experience, I wash mine inside out on a cold cycle with fast spin, then I allow it to air dry at room temparature."
Top Tip for Parents
Choose a Pro-Lite Aquafleece top one to two sizes larger than currently required, as the waist closures allow you to cinch the garment in close, and the wrist seals keep the sleeve length in check. Coupled with a buoyancy aid over the top, this combination is still effective at keeping them dry and warm with minimal excess bulk; so buying the more expensive option might be cheaper in the long run.
