Just had a fantastic weekend competing in the Optimist class at the Rooster Southern Traveller Series, hosted by Hayling Island Sailing Club. I was training here a few weeks ago, so it was good to be back again with my friends.
The weather was perfect with a good breeze, sunshine and plenty of tide to think about.
There were 90 boats in the main fleet and I finished 28th overall. My best result of the weekend was a 6th, which I was pleased with. There were sailors from the National Squad and the Worlds Team, so the competition was quite tough. I was a bit worried when my Dad started fiddling with the boat before I went afloat on Sunday morning but luckily he didn’t mess anything up!
When we got home we spent ages washing all the sand out of the boat and hoovering it out of the car. My next event is Warsash in a couple of weeks time with plenty of training planned in the meantime.
I’m also doing the Schools Sailing Championships this Friday in Picos at Rockley so that should be fun.
