Pre race tips! :-)
Leading the Fleet
Pre Nationals Wash
I sailed at the Anglian series last weekend. It is for all sailors who are based in Northamptonshire, either by attending a school in the area or living in Northamptonshire. It was held at Banbury Sailing club near Boddington.
We spent the morning training. The weather was brilliant with a steady breeze and sunshine - my perfect conditions.
The afternoon was for racing. It was so much fun! After a good start I lead the Optimists for the entire 1st race. Other fleets also sailing were Toppers, Topaz, Laser’s Pico’s and Tera’s.
After a really competitive afternoons racing, I was 2nd Optimist being beaten by Dotty. She had 2 good results, after she got her sprit up haul changed (by my dad!) so it wasn’t slipping. Followed by Millie in 3rd place.
Overall Dotty and I were 1st & 2nd against all sailors on the water when the handicap was taken into consideration. We even beat her brothers on handicap who were in Lasers.
Big thanks to Banbury Sailing club and the other competitors, what a great day. I would recommend this series to all even if it is your first attempt at an open meeting, as it caters for all levels of sailor, also it doesn’t cost as much as some larger events.
I will also mention that my Rooster Race Armour
Hiking shorts are the best, comfortable, no slipping, no walking like a zombie after the race, because they have slipped whilst sailing, No sore legs where the pads have rubbed. I would recommend them especially to the smaller sailors out there!!!
Nationals preparation now, Flame had her hull washed on Sunday and I’ll be checking my rig over the next week. Last week of school!!! We are going to have so much fun during the holidays!!!
See you at the Nationals
