The 7th of February I was at Hyeres for a PACA league regatta with my sister. My objective was to finish on the podium in the Benjamin (junior fleet). My sister Iona wanted to be 1st girl overall in the Minimes (Senior) fleet.
We woke up at 6:30 and set off at 7:30 to arrive at Hyeres for 9am, it was pouring with rain and blowing 35 knots and no one wanted to sail. Iona and I got dressed in our sailing gear in the car. After, we went to rig our boats, my Rooster Beanie
was great for keeping the rain off. We waited for a long time, and we finally went on the water after the wind dropped a little. In the first race I was 2nd and in the next I was 1st, in the last race I was 8th. My sister won the second race in the minimes fleet too!
Mum told me that she could spot me on the water because of my bright yellow Rooster Beanie so when I came ashore she knew I had won a race! (We raced quite close to the shore as the wind was forecast to increase very quickly late in the day).
Back ashore there was a hot chocolate waiting for us. In the overall rankings I finished 2nd after discards were counted, I got a medal. I was happy I had achieved my objective and had fun. My sister Iona finished 2nd overall in the Minimes fleet and was 1st girl. She got 2 medals. So we both won the 2nd race in our fleets, we both finished 2nd overall, and we ended up with 3 medals! And it stopped raining before the prize giving.
