2nd place in the Three Peaks Yacht Race on the 2nd peak

By Sargent 30th September 2020

Matt and his team aboard British Soldier safely arrived at Whitehaven tonight. They are currently in harbour lying in 2nd place with the third boat not yet ashore. George and Andrew have set off on their cycle ride to and then run up and down Scafell Pike in the dark - lovely!

British Soldier were 2nd to Caernarfon. Matt and John reached the summit of Snowdon in 2nd place in a fast 2 hours 50 mins. However as it is in sailing so it is on land: there is no point going fast in the wrong direction. So the pair's scenic detour off the hill meant that British Soldier slipped Caernarfon in 5th place. Fortunately British Soldier was favoured by kind winds and a wily crew. The crew did not fly the spinnaker in the Swellies but did so to great effect out of the Menaii Straits and beyond. British Soldier reached speeds of up to 14 knots over the ground, just outside the race speed record for the leg. She finished the fabulous spinnaker run to Whitehaven in 2nd place again!

As at 2133hrs the boat crew are repairing a small tear to the spinnaker before getting their heads down for some well deserved sleep.
