29er squad selector
Last weekend was our last chance to impress the selectors to gain a place on the RYA 29er Transition Squad. We arrived early on Saturday morning to find thick fog covering the whole of Rutland and not a breath of wind. Ever hopeful, we rigged but with the conditions remaining unchanged, we were stuck in the class room for the entire day. Not really being a fan of the indoors, I found this a very taxing day even though some of the sessions that we did were useful. Thankfully the forecast for Sunday looked a little better. Having stayed at Rutland in their accommodation, a quick peek out of the window in the morning did not fill us with hope. We could barely see past the end of the jetty and club racing was quickly postponed. However after a few land based exercises, the fog began to clear and we were quick to launch and not miss the opportunity. A course was soon laid and a starting sequence got under way. Over the five race series we got 1, 1,2, 3 and 14 which was enough to win the series. All in all it was a great event and it was a nice bonus not having far to travel on Sunday night!
Next stop open class training in Weymouth.
