29er Noble Marine Winter Champs and Harken Grand Prix- Bobby and Harvey

By Harvey Martin 30th September 2020
We arrived at Draycote Water early Saturday morning to find freezing conditions and about 7 to 10 knots of wind shifting all over the place.

We launched nice and early to get a feel for the racing area only to find I had put both the 3's on our new sail the wrong way round (oops!). Our first race started well rounding the top mark in third and we had an awesome downwind to then lead at the bottom mark. We finally finished the race and ended up coming third which we were super happy with. The next race went much the same and we came third again. In the next race the breeze had picked up and we didn’t have a very good start but we worked hard and managed to get a 12th which was good under the circumstances. Then the final race of the day could not have gone much worse and we ended up coming 25th - not what we planned. When we got in we found out that we were 5th overall which was really good for us. Sunday dawned even colder and no wind at all. After a postponement the wind began to fill in and a race got under way with the wind shifting and gusting all over the place. We just managed to get a 9th. After loads of starts that were abandoned we finally got under way and led up the first beat, but as we neared the windward mark racing was abandoned and we headed for shore to find we had finished 4th overall and were first juniors, a great way to start the new season. All in all it was a really good experience. Bobby and Harvey 29er 543
